VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -The Detroit Red Wings didn't need a shutout from Dominik Hasek to extend their winning streak to nine games.
All it took was a mistake by the other goaltender.
Johan Franzen's short-handed wrist shot beat Roberto Luongo from 35 feet to lift Detroit to a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, and give the Red Wings a franchise-record matching ninth-straight victory.
Franzen was killing off the final seconds of a power play when he pulled up atop the right faceoff circle and wristed a shot that went between the legs of both defenseman Patrick Coulombe and Luongo with 6:19 left in the third period.
"I tried to get a shot between the D legs and hope Luongo wouldn't see it but yeah, I was surprised (it went in)," said Franzen. "I was just taking a chance - you never lose anything by shooting - but usually he stops those."
Henrik Zetterberg and Valtteri Filppula also scored, and Daniel Cleary added two assists for the Red Wings, who haven't lost since Oct. 21 in Edmonton.
Hasek, who blanked Edmonton and Nashville in his last two starts, extended his shut out streak to a career-best 181 minutes, 17 seconds before Henrik Sedin scored on a power play 7:49 into the second period.
"Really, I didn't know that," Hasek, a six-time Vezina Trophy winner, said of setting a new career-best shutout mark at the age of 41. "Of course I appreciate every shutout, but the win is more important."
Detroit was outshooting the Canucks 16-4 and leading 1-0 before being penalized for too many men on the ice. Hasek stopped Markus Naslund's wrist shot from the top of the left circle, but couldn't glove Sedin's sharp-angle shot on the rebound.
It was the first goal given up by Hasek in 10 days. But he made 18 saves to keep another streak alive with his seventh straight win.
"It was a sweet win because they were coming back pretty aggressive in the third and Luongo, even though he played a great game, he made a mistake and it cost them the game," Hasek said.
Kevin Bieksa also scored, and Luongo finished with 30 saves as the Canucks lost for the sixth time in the last seven games.
"It's the best I've felt in a while, so it's disappointing it turned out that way," said Luongo. "He used the defenseman as a screen. I was out, I was set and it just went through me. I couldn't have played the shot differently, I did what I had to do and unfortunately it found a hole."
Filppula opened the scoring when a shot from the slot ricocheted in off the shoulder of Coulombe at the side of the net 4:36 into the second. Zetterberg put Detroit ahead early in the third when he was left alone behind the Vancouver defense and outwaited Luongo before lifting a backhand over the fallen goalie.
Bieksa tied it 30 seconds later on a one-timer from the high slot and even after Franzen restored Detroit's lead, the Canucks again answered quickly.
But Alexandre Burrows' apparent tying goal three minutes later was immediately waved off by referee Bill McCreary, who instead called a goaltender interference penalty on Jan Bulis for bumping Hasek in the crease.
"The referee made the right decision," Hasek said. "I don't know if he tripped me intentionally, but he definitely tripped me. I couldn't make the save."
