Canucks @ Ducks - Game Preview
Vancouver Canucks vs. Anaheim Ducks

The Canucks play three consecutive games beginning with the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night at the Honda Center.

Vancouver started their preseason with a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders in Terrace Monday night.

Terrace edged out more than 7,100 entries and was named the Kraft Hockeyville city after winning an annual competition held by the CBC that deems one city as the most passionate Canadian hockey city.

Sergei Shirokov stole the show in Hockeyville scoring both Canuck goals and was deservedly named the game's first star.

Shirokov was a standout last week in the Canucks prospects' exhibition games in Edmonton but no one was really surprised there. He didn't score but had three assists in the two games.

When the 23-year old Russian signed with Vancouver this summer, the expectations were high, drawing comparisons to former Canuck, Pavel Bure, and so far, he hasn't disappointed.

"Without a doubt, with Sergei you can see there’s a lot of upside to how he can find the net, find the holes," said head coach Alain Vigneault following Monday's game.

Monday's lineup featured many young players and depth players and didn't include, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, Ryan Kesler, newcomer, Mikael Samuelsson, or Canucks captain, Roberto Luongo.

Shirokov and the Sedins are not expected to be in the lineup against the Ducks but Kesler, Samuelsson, and Luongo will dress for the game.

Whether Luongo will start is still up in the air.  Cory Schneider is the other goalie slated in Thursday's lineup.

Most of the players will be playing in their first game of the year in Anaheim as some try to make an impression on coaching staff and management, looking to earn a coveted roster spot.

All 47 Canuck players remaining on the preseason roster will make the trip to California Thursday morning.

The Ducks begin their preseason campaign Wednesday night against the Phoenix Coyotes in their first of four consecutive games.

It took four periods and just two rounds in the shootout for Anaheim to beat the Coyotes 3-2.

Joffrey Lupul and Bobby Ryan both scored for the Ducks while both Phoenix players, Kyle Turris and Kevin Porter's attempts failed to get past Timo Pielmeier.

Anaheim is currently carrying six goalies on their preseason roster and it is likely two different goaltenders will suit up for them tonight.
