Canucks 2, Oilers 1

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Henrik and Daniel Sedin have given the Edmonton Oilers all sorts of problems over the years, and Sunday was no different.

Henrik Sedin had a goal and an assist and his twin brother assisted on both Vancouver goals as the Canucks beat Edmonton 2-1, giving them three straight road wins for the first time in more than a year.

"They didn't play to their standards and we played a really solid game," Daniel Sedin said. "That's what happens sometimes. I felt we played one of our best games of the year."

Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault thought it was one of the strongest performances of the season by the Sedins, who each have 53 career points against Edmonton.

"They were outstanding," Vigneault said. "That was probably the best game they have played so far this year and we need them to play that way. They made some smart plays with the puck in their end of the rink and were really solid in our end when Edmonton came in. They played the type of game that we need and expect them to play."

Alex Burrows also scored for the Canucks, who have won six of eight. Roberto Luongo stopped Magnus Paajarvi on a penalty shot.

Jordan Eberle scored with 5 seconds left for the Oilers, who have lost two of three but still have five wins in their last seven games.

The Canucks outshot Edmonton 32-12, with the Oilers registering only one shot in the third period for the second game in a row.

"We allowed a real good team to come in and have it easy," Oilers coach Tom Renney said "We certainly need to be better.

"I'm disappointed in our compete. Vancouver is a good team but they didn't blow the doors off of anybody here. That's probably the most frustrating thing. We had an opportunity to beat a very good team if we had been as ready as we have been for most of this month."

Vancouver opened the scoring just more than 6 minutes into the first period as Daniel Sedin made a terrific pass through traffic to Burrows, who had an empty net to shoot at with Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk not able to get over in time.

The Oilers had a great chance to tie it a minute later when Paajarvi was awarded a penalty shot after being hauled down by Andrew Alberts on a breakaway, but Luongo was able to stop his backhand attempt.

"I tried to make a move there but it was a bad penalty shot by me," Paajarvi said. "I just took it. It didn't work out."

Edmonton almost caught a break early in the second period as Alberts directed a puck at his own net, but Luongo reacted in time to stop it.

The Canucks went up 2-0 at 6:37 of the second just as a power play expired. Daniel Sedin made another excellent pass through the goal crease to give brother Henrik an easy tap in for his fifth of the season.

Eberle ended Luongo's shutout bid at 19:55 of the third, scoring a power-play goal with Dubnyk on the bench for an extra attacker. It was Edmonton's only shot of the period.

"An unfortunate set of circumstances led us to let them score like that," Luongo said. "We played well, we dominated the other team for a big part of the game and we did what we had to do to get two points."

NOTES: It was the second meeting of the season between the teams. Vancouver won the first one 4-3 on the strength of Raffi Torres' first career hat trick. Torres has scored two goals in 17 games since. ... Vancouver came into the game with the NHL's top-rated power play while the Oilers were 30th in penalty killing. ... Eight of Daniel Sedin's team-high 16 goals for the Canucks have come on the power play. ... Canucks forward Mason Raymond broke his right thumb against Anaheim on Wednesday and is week to week. Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff took a puck to the head in the same game and has a concussion. ... The Oilers are still without forwards Ales Hemsky (groin) and captain Shawn Horcoff (knee). ... Oilers defenseman Jim Vandermeer left with an ankle injury in the first period and did not return.
