Canucks 5, Oilers 2

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -Two Sedin brothers were too much for the Edmonton Oilers.

Daniel Sedin scored a career-high three goals and had two assists, while twin Henrik Sedin added four assists as the Vancouver Canucks won 5-2 on Tuesday night.

"It was a big game, so it was nice to get some goals and contribute like that," Daniel Sedin said. "When the puck goes your way like that, it makes for a fun night."

Markus Naslund and Taylor Pyatt also scored for Vancouver, which has won four straight over Edmonton and recorded at least a point in nine of its last 10 games overall.

"Tonight, we got back scoring," Henrik Sedin said. "It is good for the team. It was a huge win and to do that in their building was big for us."

Shawn Horcoff and Zack Stortini scored for Edmonton.

The Canucks took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission on Pyatt's goal at 14:18, which both Sedins assisted on.

Daniel Sedin sealed the victory with third-period goals at 8:18 and 19:04, the last into an empty net.

The Canucks had their share of help from both the Oilers and the officials, scoring on a pair of full two-minute 5-on-3 opportunities.

"Anytime you get in a position where you have to kill two full minutes of 5-on-3, it's difficult to overcome," Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said. "We are good enough to win, but we aren't good enough to overcome that kind of disadvantage."

Raffi Torres, who took the second penalty in both situations, accepted his role in the loss.

"We can't have that, it's stupid," he said.

Horcoff opened the scoring at 4:18 of the first, deflecting Jason Smith's shot past Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo with both teams playing with four skaters aside.

Vancouver tied it at 17:43 on a two-man power play as Henrik Sedin's shot hit his brother's skate, then the post and went past Oilers goalie Dwayne Roloson. The Oilers argued the puck was kicked in, but the goal stood following a video review.

Vancouver had another two-man power play in the second, and that resulted in Naslund's goal at 5:26. Daniel Sedin found the Canucks captain at the side of the net and he easily tapped the puck in for the 2-1 lead.

Edmonton made it 2-2 on Stortini's goal at 9:28. Petr Sykora put a shot on goal that Luongo stopped but allowed a huge rebound that Stortini was able to convert for his first NHL goal.

"It was a frustrating night because we thought we did a lot of things right," Oilers defenseman Steve Staios said. "Roberto Luongo was obviously very good, but that's a game we have to win, so it is frustrating."

Notes: Stortini hit Vancouver defenseman Lukas Krajicek into the boards 1 1/2 minutes into the first period, sending Krajicek out of the game. He didn't return. ... Edmonton and Vancouver are the only teams under .500 against Northwest Division opponents. ... Earlier Tuesday, the Oilers assigned left wing Patrick Thoresen to the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
