EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) _ Eric Brewer made sure the Edmonton Oilers earned a full two points.

The defenseman scored at 3:56 of overtime to give the Edmonton Oilers a 4-3 victory over the slumping Vancouver on Saturday night.

``That was really our only goal once we got into overtime,'' Brewer said. ``We battled like crazy to get there. I thought we played really well. Guys moved the puck well, played the type of game we needed to.''

Brewer hit the post on his first attempt, but got his stick on the puck while falling and pushed it past goalie Dan Cloutier.

``I'm glad (it went in) because I don't know if I'd have been skating down to the other end,'' Brewer said.

Adam Oates scored his first goal in 39 games this season for the Oilers, and set up Ales Hemsky's goal that tied it at 3 at 4:21 of the third period.

Fernando Pisani also scored for the Oilers.

``We haven't had a lot of breaks this year and we created our own break in the end,'' Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said. ``Brew made a terrific play. It was a great feeling for our team and it will give us a lot of energy coming into the rink tomorrow.''

Artem Chubarov, Marek Malik and Daniel Sedin scored for Canucks and Todd Bertuzzi had two assists. Vancouver has lost two straight and five of its last six games.

Vancouver, which twice blew one-goal leads, was again without injured captain Markus Naslund (concussion).

``Overall, we just got to strive to get better and play like we did to get the leads,'' Bertuzzi said. ``We tied it up, we came right back, tied it up and then got the lead. We've got to play better with the lead and we've got to continue to go forward instead of sitting back.''

Edmonton was 2-for-5 with the man advantage and has scored a power-play goal in four consecutive games, the longest streak for the team this season.
