Though they're only two games into February, the Vancouver Canucks are already putting last month's woes behind them.

The Canucks will be trying for their first three-game winning streak in over two months on Tuesday night, when they match up with the St. Louis Blues.

Vancouver (24-20-8) finished with a 2-5-5 record last month after enduring a miserable eight-game losing streak (0-5-3) from Jan. 9-31. The team was also winless at home, and mired in a franchise-record nine-game skid at GM Place that dated to December.

But the Canucks ended both slides by defeating Carolina on Tuesday, then continued that success with Saturday night's 7-3 home victory over Chicago.

Alexander Edler contributed a goal and three assists to help the Canucks secure back-to-back victories for the first time since Dec. 14-17, and they're now in position for their first three-game winning streak since reeling off a season-high four in a row from Nov. 19-24.

"We're on a nice little roll and I think these last two games were a great start," forward Taylor Pyatt told the Canucks' official Web site. "It's coming down to the final stretch here in the season so we've got to put some wins together."

After spending eight of 12 January games at home, the Canucks play seven of their next eight on the road, where they are 11-9-4.

St. Louis was one of the teams that took advantage of Vancouver's home woes, posting a 6-4 victory on Jan. 9.

"This homestand didn't go the way we would have liked so we've got to get out on the road and win some tough games and everyone in here is prepared to do that," Pyatt said. "Nothing would take the bitterness of losing to these teams away more than stealing some wins in their barns."

The Canucks are 4-9-0 in St. Louis since Jan. 20, 2001, but have won six of the last nine series meetings overall. Roberto Luongo is 7-2-0 with a 2.17 goals-against average in his last nine games against the Blues, but 2-4-0 lifetime in St. Louis.

St. Louis (22-24-6) recorded a point for the ninth time in its last 10 games (6-1-3) with a 4-1 victory over Colorado on Saturday. Brad Boyes and David Perron each had a goal and an assist for St. Louis, which is last in the Western Conference with 50 points, but within six of Vancouver and Edmonton for the eighth and final postseason spot.

"It's going to be a dogfight every game," defenseman Barret Jackman said. "We just want to give ourselves a chance."

Goalie Chris Mason has been doing his part to help the Blues break into the playoff picture. He made 23 saves Saturday, and is 5-1-2 with two shutouts and a 1.20 GAA in his last eight games.

Mason, though, is 0-2-1 with a 3.02 GAA in five career games versus the Canucks, and will be looking to contain the newly formed line of Ryan Kesler, Mats Sundin and Pavol Demitra.

The trio has combined for five goals and 10 assists in the last two games, and had a hand in each of the Canucks' four power-play goals on Saturday. Vancouver is 8-for-21 with the man advantage in its last four contests, while St. Louis has killed off 34 of 35 penalties in its last seven games.
