Team: Northern Michigan Wildcats (CCHA)
Team Record: 11-15-4
Stats to Date: 13 GP, 2 G, 3 A
Analysis: Butcher showed he has offensive talent in the BCHL, but he needs to prove he can continue to rise up to the competition, and not fade into the 3rd or 4th line. His defensive game and willingness to be physical should take him far enough he will be given every opportunity to prove he belongs, but it’s up to him to put points up on the board. If he can’t become an offensive threat, he may turn into another checking line center.
Scout Update: Butcher has already destroyed last season’s total point tally, and notched his first few collegiate goals. He has really improved his playmaking abilities and this in turn has helped to spread the offense for the Wildcats. As NMU’s #1 face-off man Butcher is relied upon in crunch time, and he usually delivers. Perhaps the brightest spot of the year is that he already has NHL-caliber size and weight (NMU has him at 6-2 205) and this will greatly aid with the transition to the pro game in the future.
