It’s that time of year again when moustaches become commonplace and November is referred to as Movember, it's a shout out to all the “Mo’s” being sprouted on thousands of men’s faces to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health.
If you’ve ever wanted to see what you look like with a little lip carpet, now’s your chance.
On Movember 1st, register at Movember.com and join other Vancouver Canucks fans pledging to take their clean-shave faces and gruff them up for 30 days of fine moustachery. Mo Bros raise funds for their whisker efforts, regardless of how magnificent or mini. Mo Sistas also play a part by supporting the men in their lives in their moustache efforts by leaving the word “cheesy” on the shelf for a while.
According to Movember.com, Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often-ignored issue of men’s health.
In 2011, over 854,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas across the world got on board, raising $125.7 million. That a lot of moustaches and a lot of money.
For those who join the Vancouver Canucks fans group on Movember.com and raise at least $100 by November 30, 2012, you’ll be entered to win an exclusive Canucks prize pack. This contest is open to Mo Bros and Mo Sistas alike, simply raise at least $100 and you’re entered to win.
On Moveber 1st, the Montreal Canadiens threw down the gauntlet challenging the Vancouver Canucks and their fans to throw down their razors. Both NHL clubs created Movember pages and fans supported the fight against prostate cancer by joining the pages, growing glorious moustaches and raising a lot of money - over $8,000 to be exact.
There are really no losers when raising money for those in need and looking '70s in the process, but a bet is a bet and both sides agreed that the losing team’s mascot would pose with the winning team’s jersey and give it a thumbs up after the challenge.
We've tallied the donations and the winner is: the Vancouver Canucks! The Canucks raised more than $6,000, while the Canadiens checked in at just over $2,000.
