Canucks.com is looking for the next featured blogger. Do you have what it takes? We’re looking for a new blogger for the 2008-09 season and it could be you. We’ll choose the quarter-finalists but you choose the winner. Over the next month we’re going to let visitors of CDC vote for their favourite bloggers.
Last year, your votes gave Polar Bear his time in the spotlight among the Canucks.com bloggers.
This week's theme: The game you're most looking forward to this season.
Read the two entries below and vote for your favourite.
| SEASON OF HOPE Before I start, let's all step back Take a moment before, the game, the facts His name was Luc, a strong young man With a family, a future, adoring fans Beyond the game, beyond the wins He's forever a Canuck, with a city of friends Let's talk some more beyond the game You know his face, you know his name You've watched him grow, you've seen him cry You've felt his pain, watched his jersey fly No 'I', no 'me', just 'we' in team He's done more for a city than one could dream Trevor, Trevor, all the best A 'C' forever is on your chest The express is gone, an era done No '94, no playoff run It fell a part, that cold March day Where they lost their heart on that famous play Berts in red, a flame this time Mo's a duck, one year to shine Nazzy left for the New York nights East coast life, no all night flights And now let's talk of a brand team A whole new plan thanks to Billy Beane Moneyball's here to break the ice On the back of man, known as Mike AV's still kicking, with his defensive core He's been told to find a way to score Pavol, Bernier, and Wellwood too Know all too well, an inconvenient truth We need a man, with proven hands To finish off, the master plans Is it Joe, Shanny, or how bout Mats? Age aside, they're quite a catch Maybe Willie could grab his rod and reel Show Mats how fighting a salmon feels A trade perhaps to find the touch The Sedins we know, need very much We've all moved on, to better times In hopes that fate will hear our cries The summer of change we've come to know Now a season of chance, a season of hope. BLOGGER DOS AND DON'TS It seems like "everyone and their dog" has a blog these days. I mean, if Spector (see link.) can become a hockey authority from his mom's basement, then hell! What's next: TSN's most accurate hockey prognosticator is going to be a female monkey?! Oh, wait... Anyways, it's been a pleasure sharing these blogs with Canuck-nation. And, being a fan of such great bloggers like Bill Simmons – the ESPN Sport's Guy, or Gary Vaynerchuk (if you're into wine, or the New York Jets, check him out), I've tried to identify some "do's and don'ts" in regards to writing a great blog. Here they are: DO: Be passionate about what you're writing about. If you're writing a blog about the Canucks, then you better have done the following in the last month-and-a-half: calculated every Canuck player's salary cap hit, along with every potential Canuck's salary cap hit; read-up on Mats Froshaug's off-season; and, lied to at least one family member about how much time you've spent on-line keeping up with the Sundin fiasco. DON'T: Forget reality. Anyone can scream, "the Canucks are going to win the Cup!" However, a great blogger has to be honest about his/her team's current reality. For example, it would be fair to point out that Mike Gillis seems to be doing an adequate job, but, judging by the bags under his eyes, seems to be getting as much sleep as Vince Vaughn. DO: Make fun of those who deserve it. If the Calgary Flames are going to sign Todd Burtuzzi, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to... well, continue to be the Maple Leafs, then it's the bloggers duty to hold those parties accountable. Can you imagine if no one wrote about how much Gary Bettman looked like the Count from Sesame Street?! What a sad world we would live in. DON'T: Forget to be honest about the extent of your fan-hood – it's nothing to be ashamed about. Okay, so I get emotional about the thought of going to the Hall of Fame with my dad. I'm Canadian. I love hockey. My dad was my first hockey coach. I can't wait to treat him with a trip to the "centre of the universe." I can't wait. DO: Listen to your readers. A good blogger will give an opinion, like "Canuck-nation should hate the Maple Leafs more than the Flames," but at the same time be open to the thoughts, and opinions of his/her readers. I mean, who could argue with the idea that because Mike Keanan is the head coach of the Flames (the same Mike Keanan who traded Trevor Linden), that the Flames shouldn't be more hated than Pavel Bure at a Churla family reunion. (Again, see link) DON'T: Listen to David Pratt about predictions concerning when Mats Sundin will make his decision. You'll just go crazy. Thanks for checking out my blog, The Canucks Wino, Eric Southward Eric Southward |
