The Vancouver Canucks announced today the winners of their annual player awards for the 2007/2008 season.Every year, players are chosen to win team awards and are honored at the last regular season home game. Here is the list of winners of this year's awards.
Team MVP as chosen by fans Roberto Luongo captured the Cyclone Taylor Award as the Canucks MVP, as selected by the fans for the second consecutive year. Completing his second season with the Canucks, Luongo has compiled a record of 35-28-9 in 72 games played through April 4, 2008, posting a GAA of 2.35 and a save percentage of .918 on the season. In the process, he has established a new franchise record for longest shut-out streak after holding opponents scoreless for 210:34 minutes. |

Canucks most outstanding defenceman as chosen by fans Mitchell is a first time recipient of this award. In his second season with the Canucks, Mitchell leads all Canucks in blocked shots (108) and TOI (1,646:20). Mitchell also played his 400th career NHL game, Nov. 9/07 versus the Colorado Avalanche. Grandfather Les Mitchell played in the West Coast Hockey League and earned a tryout at the NYR camp during the Original Six days...Most memorable NHL moment was playing in his first Saturday night Hockey Night in Canada game at Toronto...Loves to spend time salmon fishing, fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking and camping when away from the rink...Lists dill pickle potato chips, hamburgers and sushi as his favorite foods. |

Canucks most exciting player as chosen by the fans The awards are the first of his career. In his third season with the Canucks, Alex set career highs in goals (12), assists (19) and points (31) and led the team in plus/minus (12) through April 4, 2008. In addition, Alex finished first in short-handed goals (3) and points (4) and finished tied for second in game-winning goals (3). |

In addition to being named season MVP, Luongo also collected the Molson Cup Trophy (voted by the media) for most three-star selections with 140 points. Roberto’s nickname is Louie…His favorite player growing up was Grant Fuhr…In the off-season he lives in Montreal and Florida…Roberto founded his own charity called Louie Saves Lives…His brother Fabio is a goalie in the Ontario Hockey League…Roberto and his wife Gina live in Florida during the off-season…Before the game he likes to sit in the stands and tape his stick…He also likes to play poker, golf and watch movies…Roberto’s first job was selling shoes in his father’s shoe store. |

Canucks leading point scorer at the end of the season Henrik Sedin leads all Canucks in scoring with 76 points (15-61-76) through 81 games and collects his first ever Cyrus McLean Award. In his seventh season with the Canucks, Henrik has collected 75 or more points in the last three seasons. Henrik, wife Johanna and son Valter live in Yaletown during the season….Spends his summers in his native Sweden, where he enjoys boating and golfing, lowering his handicap to 14….Enjoys working with children’s charities including Canuck Place….
