PLAYOFF MEMORIES

Game 1 against Dallas last year in the playoffs. Sitting in the stands hungry for 4 or was it 5 overtime periods. When we scored, the noise was incredible and all the towel waving produced so much fluff coming off the towels it was like being in a dust storm.

- Gary

12:30 am. Game one. Dallas. Fourth overtime. The fifth is on the horizon. Everybody around is asking when the last skytrain is leaving, people are frantically calling home for rides that aren't coming, food ran out hours ago, bottled water is all that's left. Nerves are frayed. People are overexcited/tired/taxed from the emotionally draining marathon playoff game. There's only a couple of minutes left when the long and winding arduous road of what being a fan is all about finally leads to the promised land...this is what it's all about, and yet it's just the beginning!

- Dave

Game 7, Canucks vs Stars... It was my son's (3 at time) first playoff game. We took the sky train in from our home (his first sky train trip) and watched one of the most incredible games I have ever been part of. We also bid on a signed Trevor Linden pic up for auction that night... well low and behold, we won the picture and it was delivered to our seats seconds after what turned out to be the winning goal, by none other than Trevor Linden... everyone thought we were so connected, but it was a meant to be night for us and the Canucks... we had also arranged for a limo ride home that night, because we just knew it was going to be a special night, and man, was it ever (it was also my son's first limo ride) he has been since that night, as big a Canucks fan as I am, and I hope we get many more opportunities throughout our lives to spend that kind of time together. Thanks for the memories Canucks, and especially Mr. Linden... Canucks for the cup!!

- Nick

Canuck playoff run in 1982. I recall during one of the games in that magical run to the Stanley cup series. I was walking to my friend's house to catch the game. I recall the clear blue skies and the warmth of the sun as I strolled about 2 miles to get to my destination. I suppose with the warm weather a lot of people had their windows open and I remember hearing the game as I walked through the neighborhood. What I remember most from that day was the moment our team had scored a goal. At that point not only did I hear the game I heard the neighborhood erupt into a cheering frenzy. I felt like I was at the game or at least watching it at this moment that I also cheered loudly on the sidewalk.

- Tony

One moment stands out for me above all others... Matt Cooke scoring to tie the game with 6 seconds to go in the 2004 Playoffs... Round 1 Game #7 vs. the Calgary Flames... to send the game to OT. We were out of it... and Naslund makes a mad last desparate dash up the wing and backhands a shot at Kiprusoff. Cooke comes out of nowhere crashing the net and somehow manages to scoop it over Kiprusoff's shoulder. It was as if the roof lifted off GM Place as the crowd went absolutely nuts! People were in the stands crying and hugging complete strangers. Plus Jovo going nuts in the penalty box just added to the mayhem. The noise did not stop through the entire intermission between the end of the 3rd period and the start of OT. It was a magical moment... one that I will never forget. I was proud to be there and be a part of it.

- Brent

My wife and I go to a lot of games, and there are many best games of course, but there is only one favorite moment, the moment Trevor Linden tipped the puck past Marty Turco, the series-winning goal against the Dallas Stars in the 2007 playoffs. We'll never forget the moment Linden scored. It was a tight series and we knew that as soon as the Canucks had the lead, they would never relinquish it. 18,630 people at GM Place knew this as well and collectively exploded in a mixture of relief and ecstasy. I jumped out of my seat and hugged Tracy, who had tears in her eyes. I looked back and hugged the guy behind me and he hugged the guy next to him. Everywhere you looked in the arena, fans were jumping up and down and high-fiving each other. It was an unbelievable moment and we'll never forget it.

- J.J

"The Agony and the Ecstasy" - Playoffs 2004, we were attending our first ever Playoff Game 7 with 2 friends from the Island who had never been to a live Canucks game let alone a Playoff game. We were sitting in separate sections but could wave and see each other when goals were scored. We remember like it was yesterday being quite upset that our Canucks might lose with only 1 minute left in the season, when Cooke jammed away at the puck with 2.6 seconds left to score the tying goal! The pure adrenaline rush of the crowd, the screaming, and the players going crazy on the ice was something we'll never forget. The crowds then erupted into the foyer for the break, but with no services open the vision was of people running and screaming and high-fiving each other like we had just watched the game at home together and we were all friends! As history remembers, that moment was short-lived when Gelinas scored early (it seemed like mere seconds since the tying goal) 1 1/2 minutes into O.T. for the win. The entire place went silent for a second but then erupted again as the fans stood and applauded the surreal effort of our beloved Canucks. That's why we are fans, for moments like that... like it was yesterday...

- Brett

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

Who could forget when Ottawa came to town a couple of years ago. The best Canadian team in the East versus the best in the West. The game was all it was billed to be and the building was electric when Daniel Sedin skated down the ice to score on Dominik Hasek in the shootout. The Canucks win! The Canucks Win!

- Warren

I remember that Canucks game just after Markus broke his leg. He came to the edge of the rink on his crutches and got the extending standing ovation. For me, it was a sign of a few things: - that the Canucks were a class organization for recognizing the achievements properly., - that the Canucks fans truly cared about the players as people, not just winning, - that GM place could really rock when it really mattered, - that after that, I always felt that people knew that they could motivate the team and be a part of it. It was the beginning of a solid connection with the community for me., , Overall, I've been there for the highs (game 7 against Dallas) and the lows (we all know what that was...) and that is the moment that stands out for me.

- James

It was fan appreciation night April, 2004. Todd Bertuzzi was in the midst of a very long suspension and it was the last regular game of an even longer season., As tradition goes the team was giving the jerseys off their back. They go through every team member; Linden, Naslund, the Sedins, Ohlund. But you could tell the crowd wanted more. They were still holding out hope that maybe, just maybe big Bert would show. After a bit of a pause there was the spotlight shown onto a very humble looking Bertuzzi and everyone went nuts. It was awesome! , That was one of my favourite moments in Canucks history.

- Emma

There are actually 2 memories that stick out in my mind in the past four years. , The first would be the shootout win over Ottawa last year when the building was so loud it was shaking. This was just a regular season game against another Canadian team, but it had the atmosphere of overtime in Game 7 of the Finals to me. Loud, exciting, and of course a Canucks win! The second would easily be Game 1 versus Dallas last spring. Aside from all the overtime that was played, the performance of Roberto Luongo and over 70 saves just speaks for itself! Then to have Henrik win it, needless to say, made for an unforgettable night in Canucks history. These are just two reasons I am a proud Canucks fan and ticketholder.

- David

I was at the Coliseum the night the Maple Leafs were beating us five nothing. There were as many Leaf fans in the building as there were Canucks and they were enjoying the game immensely. That was only until the Canucks came back to tie and then win the game 6 - 5. I've never seen a better comeback since and the atmosphere was unbelievable!

- Steve

When you are as old as I am, you don't have much of a memory - so good thing that this story is from tonight's game against the LA Kings, Saturday January 19, 2008 - the Markus Naslund Tribute night. I didn't think that I would be able to go to the game due to a prior commitment so I had sold my tickets. When I learned about how special this night would be I spent two days on ticket master site and managed to get myself a great single seat. I just had to make a special sign for this night - the sign of all signs which read: NAZZY U ARE OUR KING. There I stood at the pre-skate at gate 18 with my sign, complete with blue hair, a numbered face (19 of course)and of course my Snazzy Nazzy jersey. Young kids were excitedly pushing to get near the tunnel and all I cared about was weather or not Markus saw the sign. He must of because he gave me his personal hockey stick. I haven't been the same since and now I sleep with the hockey stick - it's all GOOD! Thanks Markus - you are a special leader - we are lucky to have U!

- Barbara

December 8, 2007, I walked into Gm Place on December 8th, 2007, Penguins/ Crosby vs. our Canucks. I felt the buzz in the building I had not experienced since the spring of 1994, game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals where we faced the New York Rangers in the best game ever played in Canuck history? PERIOD!!, On December 8th, from the upper bowl, I saw below the lower bowl full with on lookers, not ready for the game to start, but looking on during the warm up. The game to follow was without doubt the 2nd best game I have witnessed from a fans perspective. The tension and the excitement was amazing. The number one goalie in the world against the number one forward? PRICELESS!!,

- Bernie

I remember being at the game when Trevor Linden got his 1000th career point as a Canuck- The whole arena stood up and gave him a huge standing ovation - The crowd would not stop - and the ref pretended to patch a hole in the ice just to get the crowd a little more time to cheer... Trevor is so grounded, it almost looked like he was embarrassed... He gave the crowd a quick acknowledgement and refocused on the game. I have always been a Trevor Linden fan, and He will always be Captain in my heart :)

EMOTIONAL FAN EXPERIENCES

My brother was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2003... In March of 2004 he was admitted to Vancouver Hospital and never discharged and passed away within a few weeks after that. In February 2004, I took him (knowing this) to his last hockey game. I honestly do not remember the game, or who it was against. My account manager, Andrew Merai and the Vancouver Canucks, graciously and generously, posted a "we will win this fight..." message on the scoreboard during the game in his name. It was a highlight for us not only for that message but because in 1970 against the Los Angeles Kings he took me to my first Vancouver Canaucks game! Unfortunately, this was his last. He passed away @ 49. Thank you for this memory!

- Douglas

On December 30th of 2006, Gianfranco Giammaria (35 years old), an elementary school teacher, father of three and long time Canuck fan was playing hockey at 8 rinks with some friends. He always wore jersey number 25. He had purchased three tickets to a Canuck game and was looking forward to attending his first Canuck game with his two sons. That night... during his game Gianfranco suffered an unexpected heart attack and sadly passed away at the rink. He never got to attend a hockey game with his sons. None-the-less... Gianfranco's wife, Denise, wanted the kids to go to the game. They attended the game, both wearing Canuck jerseys with their late father's number, 25, encrested on their backs. Two of the teachers from their school accompanied them. The Canucks were playing the Florida Panthers on Jan 7th and it was a tough game that ended up going into overtime. That solved nothing and the game then went in to shoot-out. During the shoot-out the Cancucks had one shooter left and if he scored it would give them the win. Out came Josh Green of the Canucks.... number 25!!! He scores the winning goal as Gianfranco's boys watch from their seats directly behind the net. It was as if their dad was telling them that he was still there for them and that he would be looking after them for ever. The teachers had also arranged for the boys to meet some of the players in the changeroom after the game. It was a moment that the boys will never forget. Thank you Vancouver Canucks... for that magical moment.

- Enrico

March 1, it will be one year since our very dear friend, Gerry, suffered a fatal heart attach at GM Place, just minutes into the first period of the game. Needless to say, this is not a good memory, but one we will never forget. The immediate help from fans who were skilled in CPR, Tara, the Host in our section,(114, Row 15, seats 101,102 and 114 Row 16, seats 101,102) Guest Services personnel, St.John's Ambulance attendants, Vancouver Police and the Advanced Emergency Response personnel of the Vancouver Fire Department, as well as the Security personnel at GM Place was amazing! Gerry never regained consciousness, and succumbed to subsequent heart attacks and passed away in St. Paul's Hospital on Mar.9th. We and the family will always be grateful for the skilled and swift help received at GM Place that night. It "bought" some time for family to say their goodbyes. We are also grateful to Markus Naslund, who sent a note of condolence to Gerry's widow, and her family., We've been Season Ticket Holders since 1972, and have never seen anything like this before. We were so amazed at the wonderful, caring system in place for an emergency such as this., Thank you for providing such excellent care for all of us who come out to the games. One hopes never to need them, but they were fully there when we did!

- John

OTHER FAN EXPERIENCES

It was probably 7 years ago, my boss gave me tickets to the suite for a preseason game (all 16). I took some family members and my 80 year old mother-in-law was one of the family members. It was her very first professional hockey game. Being in the suite she was able to use the elevators with her walker and be quite comfortable in getting in and out of the building. She sat down in her seat and never left it only in the intermission. She has become such an avid hockey fan since the death of her husband in 1971. She is starting to get a touch of dementia, but boy you mention the Canucks and she is right up to date on who is who.

- Barb

I have been to so many great games over the last four years, Game 1 against Dallas, we went late into the night and game 7 against Dallas, however one of the most memorable events in my 18 years as a season ticket holder, not all 18 under the same account name had to be the fan and team photo event of this year. I brought my five year old son Joshua, expecting to be in the stands and the Canucks players on the ice. When we realized that our team and the players we love were sitting in the row directly in front of us this was one of the best moments as a fan. When Daniel Sedin sat in front of my Son and he realized who it was, he tapped Daniel on the shoulder and said" I have your stick in my room", yes I bought #22's stick at the equipment sale for my Son last season and he was sharp enough without any prompting to tell Daniel he had it, he was so proud of himself., This was fantastic. Of course I won't tell you of my experience travelling to NYC for game seven of the 1994 finals, what a herculean effort our team made in the third period to no avail, but we were so proud of our team.

- Allan

I was with my daughter who was 11 at the time and idolized Todd Bertuzzi (now shes 15 and its Taylor Pyatt) anyway she made a sign saying I love you Todd and held it up to the glass all night. In the third period Todd skated past the glass, stopped looked at her and winked with a smile ! She has never forgot that moment. Ussually the players dont look at you but an exception was made just for her !!

- Gordon

My daughter and I went to the last game of the year in the 2003/2004 season. Sean, my daughter won the right to come on down to the ice to receive Markus Naslund's game worn jersey. She was 10 at the time. What a thrill for her and her classmates come Monday morning show and tell. Also Cathy McAdam supplied us with photos of the memorable moment. Then when it was over on the ice I was standing behind Trevor Linden who had just interviewed on ice with HNIC since we were going to the play-offs. He turned and autographed my new Canucks retro jersey. I felt we were so lucky that we auctioned off the retro jersey at a her schools fundraiser and raising almost 500.00 towards the new playground. Just shows how far reaching one good thing can go. Thanks for all the memories but especially this one.

- Neil

I think my most memorable moment at a Canuck game was when the crowd gave Joe Sakic a standing ovation when he scored his 500th career goal.

- Frederick
