Positively Ready
Ryan Kesler’s evolutionary approach to all things hockey
As one approaches each hockey season, there are the usual expectations among players and fans alike. While many hope for improvement in their play on the ice, others look to incorporate a different attitude with regard to other aspects of the game as well. Among this year’s Vancouver Canucks roster, there is one such noticeable difference.

As his recent numbers attest, the play of Ryan Kesler has steadily improved. But this year, “Kes” has added another dimension for which he hasn’t really been known; a more relaxed approach with the media.

Not having been regarded as the most engaging interview among the team, the speedy centre has made tremendous strides in this area for the 2007.08 season. In fact, just prior to sitting down for our conversation, Kesler was surrounded by the media hordes, replete with a sea of microphones, note pads and cameras at the ready. The Gift of Hope
Q & A with Matt Cooke
Going on nine seasons in a Canucks uniform, what you see is what you get from Matt Cooke, the 29-year old left winger from Belleville, Ontario.

While he’s a strong, aggressive presence on the ice, Cooke is better known for his kindness away from the rink. Despite these two very opposite approaches, one theme remains constant: his passion that he brings to the game of hockey on a nightly basis transcends throughout all areas of his life.

Alongside wife Michelle, Matt has spent his time fostering the growth of their children, expanding his knowledge of antiquing and giving back, through the charitable foundation they recently established, to Vancouver, the community they call home. It’s a scene he notes was unlikely to have previously occurred as readily. Read the whole story in the magazine

The Art of Competition
Henrik Sedin Rising to the Challenge of his Rivals
He feels the tap on the shoulder; it is time to create art. Henrik wipes away the bead of sweat from his brow and takes to the spotlight, as he has done before on so many occasions. Down by one, he can hear the seconds ticking away as he moves his arms in an attempt to communicate with his teammate. As his opponents are about to celebrate, “field goal” is shouted by wife Johanna just before the buzzer sounds, tying the Pictionary game.

Known on the ice for his grace and skill, Henrik’s competitive nature extends well into his personal life. From games with his friends to a number of his hobbies he yearns to compete and to always put his best foot forward. Quiet upon first glances, the sparkle in Henrik’s gaze is the eye of the tiger - he loves to have a great time but he also loves to compete. Read the whole story in the magazine
