Minor Hockeys Showcase Their Super Skills
On January 11th two lucky minor hockey teams made their way to Rogers Arena for an incredibly special day with the Vancouver Canucks. The H3 Surrey Penguins and Bantam Tier 2 Penticton Jr Vees not only had the chance to take part in the Super Skills Competition, they had a chance to interact with their favourite players.
The Surrey Penguins were rewarded for their hard work as the highest fundraising team in our Minor Hockey Superskills Fundraiser. Their outstanding effort sold over 500 Superskills tickets to friends and family with partial proceeds going to their team. As their grand prize, the team got a chance to explore the back hallways of Rogers Arena that their favourite players walk down every day. There they met with the team for an autograph signing before the competition.
Upon arrival at Rogers Arena that morning, the Pentiction Jr Vees made a generous $1000 donation to the Canucks for Kids Fund through money raised by their fundraising initiatives. The Penticton Jr Vees got to meet the team shortly after at an autograph signing and sit in the Vancouver Canucks dressing room before joining the players on the ice. As the winners of the Freedom 55 contest the Vees had the once in a lifetime chance to showcase their skills alongside the Canucks in individual competitions, including the Fastest Skater Contest, Accuracy Shooting Challenge, Breakaway Relay, and Hardest Shot.
Superskills is not only a day where our Vancouver Canucks get to showcase their skills and compete against one another, but is also a special day where grassroots hockey in BC is celebrated and Minor Hockey teams are given the opportunity of a lifetime.
