CFEC to host holiday luncheon
VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Canucks Family Education Centre (CFEC) along with Premium Brands and the HAVE Culinary Training Society invite media to attend a luncheon Tuesday, December 17th at Britannia Secondary School in Vancouver, Room 110.
Thanks to generous donations from Premium Brands and the help of chefs and students from the HAVE Culinary Training Society, the holiday meal will feed 125 guests from CFEC, who might not otherwise have the opportunity for a holiday meal. Each of these guests will also be provided with grocery bags stuffed with essentials to fill their pantries at home, courtesy of Premium Brands.

The Canucks Family Education Centre (CFEC) is a partnership between Britannia Community Services Centre Society, the Canucks for Kids Fund, The Vancouver Sun Raise-a-Reader program and 40 program partners. The Centre opened October 3, 2002, and is located at Britannia Community Services Centre - a 17-acre site in East Vancouver, which services the inner-city communities of Grandview-Woodland and Strathcona. The primary goal of CFEC is to develop and implement a seamless system of quality family literacy programming that works with existing service providers and institutions to create meaningful opportunities for children, youth and adults to learn together. The mandate of CFEC is to positively impact low literacy levels on Vancouver’s East side and other locations throughout the province of BC, by providing a co-coordinated, comprehensive, integrated services approach to family literacy and lifelong learning. This integrated services approach has two main purposes - to develop collaborative relationships between service providers and to share resources. Most importantly, CFEC provides barrier-free learning for all participants by providing access to free literacy programming, free child-care, free transit passes, and complimentary hot meals every day of the week.
About HAVE Culinary Training Society
The HAVE Culinary Training Society is a culinary training school that provides foodservice job training and work opportunities to individuals in Vancouver who experience barriers to employment. HAVE‘s students are youth and adults facing mental and physical disabilities, poverty, addiction and homelessness. HAVE’s enrolment numbers are a record high and they expect to train even more students in need in the coming year. Over the past six years, HAVE has successfully trained 500+ students with over 75% of those students gaining steady employment in the tourism and hospitality industry.
