Great goaltending from Joacim Eriksson, a four-goal game from Colin Stuart, along with a highlight reel shootout goal from Nicklas Jensen propelled the Utica Comets this past week as they grabbed four of a possible six points on their three-game in three-night set.

Friday, December 13th: Utica Comets 5 – Binghamton Senators 2

-Colin Stuart scored four times, while Cal O’Reilly added a single as the Comets set a franchise record for goals in a game with five.

-Stuart’s original hat trick goal was credited to Darren Archibald; however, AHL officials changed it to Stuart on Saturday morning.

-Ben Ferriero and Pascal Pelletier led the assist department with two helpers apiece, while Archibald, O’Reilly, Patrick Mullen, Nicklas Jensen and Frank Corrado all registered one.

-Joacim Erksson made a career-high 42 saves between the barber poles for the Comets.

-Alexandre Grenier led all Comets skaters with seven shots on goal.

-The Comets were outshot 44-33 in the game, including 19-8 in the first period.

-Kent Huskins was a game-high plus-3, while the Comets power-play went 2-for-5.

Saturday, December 14th: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 1 – Utica Comets 0

-Despite outshooting the Penguins by a count of 22-18, the Comets came up short, dropping a 1-0 decision on Saturday night.

-Joe Cannata stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced in goal.

-Kellan Lain and Pascal Pelletier both had a team-high three shots on goal.

-The lone-goal surrendered by the Comets came while a man down with 7:58 remaining in the third period.

Sunday, December 15th: Utica Comets 3 – Lake Erie Monsters 2 (Shootout)

-The win was the first shootout victory in Comets franchise history.

-Nicklas Jensen snapped a 34-game goalless drought with his first goal of the season.

-Kellan Lain also found the back of the net, firing home his third of the season.

-Darren Archibald picked up his fourth fighting major of the season as he threw down with Monsters defenseman Gabriel Beaupre in the first period.

-Peter Andersson, Alex Biega, Alexandre Grenier and Cal O’Reilly all had one assist in the game.

-Five players tied with a team-high three shots on goal.

-Biega, Brandon DeFazio and Alex Mallet were the only Comets to finish with positive plus/minus, finishing plus-1.

-After overtime solved nothing, the teams went to a shootout where Eriksson stopped three of the four shooters he faced.

-After Benn Ferriero couldn’t convert in the first round of the shootout, Pelletier, Jensen and Grenier were all able to find the back of the net to give the Comets the win.

-Jensen’s shootout winner was sliiicckkkk, as you can see.



Comet of the Week

The Comets goaltending duo was spectacular this past weekend and leading the charge was Joacim Eriksson. The product of Galve, Sweden posted two wins and stopped 68 of the 72 shots he faced. Eriksson, made a career-high 42 saves in the Comets 5-2 win on Friday night, which earned him Third Star of the Game honours. On Sunday, Eriksson turned aside 26 shots and then another three in the shootout in the Comets 3-2 win over Lake Erie, which earned him Second Star of the Game. Eriksson is 6-9-1 this season with a 2.98 goals-against average, .902 save-percentage and one shutout.

The Comets host the Abbotsford Heat on Wednesday and Friday night in their last two games before the Christmas break.
