Canucks sign Bo Horvat & Hunter Shinkaruk
Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Michael D. Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed Bo Horvat and Hunter Shinkaruk.
Horvat was selected ninth overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. In 67 games with the London Knights the Rodney, Ontario native recorded 61 points (33-28-61) over the 2012.13 season. Horvat scored a league-leading 16 goals (16-7-23) through 21 games during the 2013 Ontario Hockey League playoffs, tallying the game-winning goal in Game 7 to clinch a berth in the Memorial Cup and Most Valuable Player honours for the OHL playoffs.Horvat represented Canada at the 2012 Under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He recorded four points (2-2-4) in five games, helping Canada win the gold. The 6’0”, 206-pound forward also won bronze as captain of Team Ontario at the 2012 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, where he posted seven points (4-3-7) in six games.
Selected 24th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Shinkaruk captained the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 2012.13 season recording 86 points (49-37-86) through 64 games played. The Calgary, Alberta native led his team in playoff scoring with six points (3-3-6) in eight games.
At the international level, Shinkaruk tallied a hat trick, including the overtime winner, to help Team Canada capture a bronze medal at the 2012 Under-18 World Championships. He also won gold at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
