Canucks Report: Going for gold

Daniel and Henrik Sedin will be playing for gold at the IIHF World Championships after a 2-0 semifinal win over Team Finland in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday.

Henrik led the charge for the Swedes with a goal and two assists, while Daniel finished with two helpers. Sweden was without Canucks defenseman Alex Edler who was suspended for the remainder of the tournament after his hit on Canada captain Eric Staal.

Loui Eriksson opened the scoring at the midway point of the first period with a power-play marker on a shot-pass from Henrik, which gave Sweden a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Just over six minutes into the middle stanza, it was more of the same. Daniel found Henrik who then found Eriksson with a nice pass, and the Dallas Stars sniper found the back of the net with his second power-play tally of the game, making it 2-0 Sweden.

Henrik capped off his impressive game with an empty netter with less than 30 seconds remaining to give Sweden a 3-0 victory.

Henrik played a little over 20 minutes in the game, while Daniel played 21:10 and finished with a team-high seven shots on goal.

Through three games in the tournament, Daniel (1-5-6) and Henrik (2-4-6) both have posted six points.

Sweden will play Switzerland for gold on Sunday.
