Minor hockey program distributors win night in private suite

Local teams from New Westminster and Burnaby watched as the Canucks shutout the Oilers on home ice.

If you have ever been to a game at Rogers Arena, chances are, you were welcomed through the gates with a free program from a young minor hockey player. The Vancouver Canucks have been proud to offer program distribution as a fundraiser to a select handful of minor hockey teams every season. As always, our participating teams were entered into a draw this past March to watch a home game from one of our private suites.

After serving as hosts for several games over the course of the 2013 campaign, this year’s winners were the New Westminster Royals and Burnaby Wildcats. Both teams were welcomed as honoured guests on April 4 and were treated with a private tour through Rogers Arena before settling into their 400-level suites to watch the Canucks take on the Edmonton Oilers.

In addition to experiencing Derek Roy’s first game as a Canuck, the Royals and Wildcats helped pay tribute to Pavel Bure, as Vancouver welcomed back the retired superstar, who made an in-game appearance at Rogers Arena. On the ice, the Canucks completed the night for our program distributors by shutting the Oilers out 4-0. “Thanks to the Vancouver Canucks,” Selina Pirmohamed (coordinator of Burnaby female minor hockey) commented, “the girls got the opportunity to bond as a team off the ice and now have memories to treasure for a lifetime!”

Following their private suite experience at Rogers Arena, the Burnaby Wildcats went on to complete a banner-winning season, capturing the “Blue Group” championship at the female Atom level. Congratulations, girls!
