The Goods: Canucks mauled in SJ

Now it's truly do or die

The Vancouver Canucks gave up two goals in nine seconds 1:40 into the third period and dropped Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal 5-2 to the San Jose Sharks Sunday night at HP Pavilion.

Through 40 minutes San Jose held a 2-1 lead off a pair of goals from Joe Pavelski, while Alex Burrows scored his first of the post-season to put the game up for grabs heading into the final period.

Cory Schneider, starting his first game of the series, had 21 saves after 40 minutes and the Canucks looked primed to take a bite out of the Sharks and win their first game of the series.

Two quick goals later, scored by Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau, and Vancouver spun out of control and now trails the series 3-0 with a series deciding Game 4 Tuesday night in San Jose.

Dan Hamhuis scored a late goal for the Canucks, but it was too little, too late.

"They got a couple of quick ones and…it's embarrassing," said Ryan Kesler, post-game. "We played two pretty good periods and the third just wasn't characteristic of us at all, especially with what was on the line. We have to focus and just focus on shift to shift and everyone needs to know they can be a determining factor, it doesn't matter if you play five minutes or 30 minutes, you can be a difference every shift.

"We've got to move past this and we've got to want it a lot more than we did in the third."

Schneider finished with 23 saves and was replaced with Roberto Luongo after the fifth Sharks' goal. Luongo stopped all 10 shots faced.

FULL RECAP

AND ANOTHER THING...
While it's annoying, I gotta give it to Sharks fans. The Shark comp is intimidating.

Jory's Jewels

Tweet of the Night - "Fans here want more goals.. Lots more.. That's not super nice... What did the Canucks ever do to-- ahh right.." - @blakeprice1040. Revenge is indeed being served. Can the Canucks get it together before it's too late?
Daniel Sedin = Pavel Bure - With the second assist on Alex Burrows' second period goal, Daniel Sedin collected his 66th career playoff point to move into a tie with the Russian Rocket Pavel Bure for third on the franchise's all-time playoff points list.
This and That - Tom Sestito started the game in place of Andrew Ebbett, this was Sestito's NHL playoff debut; for the third straight game the Canucks outhit the Sharks, this time 41-33; Jason Garrison led Vancouver in shots with six of his team's 30; Vancouver has lost four straight playoff games dating back to last year and has just one playoff win in their last 10 post-season outings dating back to the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.
No love - Thanks Sharks, it's a Jory to be here... http://twitpic.com/cojp0c.
