The Goods: Canucks fall to Blues
Thankfully, there are no shootouts in the playoffs.
For 65 minutes the Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues battled it out in near post-season hockey and in the end it came down to a shootout to decide the winner. The Blues took the extra point beating the Canucks 2-1 Tuesday night at Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
Andy McDonald and Alex Steen scored on Cory Schneider in the shootout, while Derek Roy and Alex Burrows were stopped by Brian Elliott.
Following a lacklustre opening period, in which the Canucks were outshot 14-5, Vancouver and St. Louis upped the ante in the second as bodies started hitting the ice. The rough stuff led to heated scrums all over the ice and just when it looked as though fisticuffs would be the highlight of the period, Alex Edler scored on the power play with 13 seconds left to give Vancouver a 1-0 edge.
The physical play continued in the third and hits finished 22-21 for the Blues when the dust cleared, but St. Louis was able to get to Schneider once in the frame and that was enough to send the game to overtime and eventually a shootout.
Schneider finished with 35 saves.
