The Goods: Dropped in the shark tank
Same breakdown, different resolve.
For the second consecutive game the Vancouver Canucks allowed three goals against in quick fashion, this time in the second period, as part of a 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks Monday night HP Pavilion.
After 20 minutes Cory Schneider, who finished with 32 saves, was perfect making 14 stops and this was a scoreless game. Fast-forward to the midway point of the second period and it was 3-0 Sharks. Andrew Desjardin and Joe Thornton scored 41 seconds apart and Logan Couture added another to make it three goals in 2:13 before the game was half over.
The Canucks, fresh off a 4-0 loss in Edmonton Saturday night, flexed some muscle late in the second with Chris Higgins scoring his ninth goal of the year; Alex Burrows made things interesting with 9:40 to play in the final frame by scoring his 10th goal to make it a 3-2 Sharks lead.
Vancouver hit Antti Niemi with eight shots in the third period, and 25 overall, but he kept the Canucks at bay in the end with timely stops for the win.
The Canucks return to action Thursday night at home against the Oilers, but a lot could change by then with the NHL Trade Deadline Day set for Wednesday.
