Kevin Bieksa scored with 61 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, but the Blackhawks snuck past the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in a shootout Tuesday night at the United Center in Chicago.
Daniel Sedin opened the scoring late in the first period as the Canucks momentarily silenced the rowdy Madhouse crowd taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Three second period goals from the Blackhawks and it was all Chelsea Dagger, all the time. Marian Hossa had two goals, Patrick Sharp the other, as Chicago took a commanding 3-1 lead into the final frame.
With three minute remaining in the game, the Canucks threw everything they had at Ray Emery and it paid off. Alex Edler scored on the power play at 17:18 and Bieksa bulged twine at 18:59 to earn Vancouver at least a single point.
The Canucks wouldn't have been anywhere close to forcing overtime and eventually a shootout were it not for the jaw-dropping play of Cory Schneider, who finished with 40 saves, 15 of which saved goals - and that's likely an understatement.
Vancouver is now without a regulation win in three games.
