Henrik Sedin becomes franchise scoring leader
“The Vancouver Canucks would like to congratulate Henrik on his accomplishment of becoming the organization’s all-time leading scorer,” said Michael D. Gillis, President and General Manager, Canucks Sports & Entertainment. “Henrik has developed into a player that not only possesses great skill but leadership, commitment and humility as well. Henrik has been a great ambassador of the game and we look forward to watching his continued success.”
Henrik also currently holds the franchise record for most assists (586). He ranks second for games played at 905 and continues an ironman streak of 594 consecutive games, only second to Calgary’s Jay Bouwmeester for most consecutive games played among active players. Henrik is second in club history for most playoff games played (95) and most points in the post-season (22-49-71), trailing only Trevor Linden in both categories.
Henrik has led the Canucks to consecutive Presidents’ Trophies in the 2010.11 and 2011.12 seasons with a club record of 117 points and 54 wins in the 2010.11 season. He became the third captain to accept the Clarence Campbell Bowl as Western Conference champions during the 2011 NHL Playoffs, leading the Canucks to their third Stanley Cup Final appearance. During the 2011 NHL playoffs, Henrik set the record for most assists in a single playoff year with 19 assists, surpassing Pavel Bure’s previous record of 16 assists.
On October 9, 2010 Henrik was named the 13th captain of the Vancouver Canucks at the beginning of the franchise’s 40th season. In the 2009.10 season, Henrik led the League in scoring, recording a career high 112 points (29-83-112) and setting two new franchise records for most assists in a season (83) and most points in a season (112), surpassing Pavel Bure’s point record (110). He was awarded the Art Ross Trophy as the League’s lead scorer and the Hart Trophy as League MVP, becoming the first Canucks player to receive either award in franchise history. Henrik was drafted third overall in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
Henrik has received multiple team awards. He is a four-time Cyrus H. McLean Trophy winner for being the team’s leading scorer from 2008 to 2010 and in 2012, and is a two-time Cyclone Taylor Trophy winner for most valuable player in 2010 and 2012. He has ranked in the top two in scoring for the Canucks since the end of the 2004.05 lockout. Henrik has made appearances in the 2008, 2011 and 2012 All-Star games.
