The Goods: Canucks cruise past Avs
Canucks continue domination of Avalanche
Jason Garrison and Maxim Lapierre scored their first goals of the season, Zack Kassian netted his fifth of the year, and Roberto Luongo stopped all 24 shots faced as the Vancouver Canucks buried the Colorado Avalanche Wednesday night at Rogers Arena.
The Canucks were again slow out of the gate getting outshot 5-0 by the Avalanche early on, but Garrison put an end to that scoring from the point on Vancouver’s first shot. The unassisted goal was his first as a member of the Canucks.
Lapierre made it a 2-0 game at the 15:12 mark of the second and, despite fans fearful of another blown two-goal lead, the Canucks powered their way to their third win of the season thanks to the goaltending of Luongo.
In his second consecutive start, Luongo was, in a word, stellar; his third period shorthanded save on Matt Duchene was a game-saver. This blanking marks his 61st career shutout.
Kassian added an insurance goal late, giving him five on the season. Zack Attack only registered for four goals all of last year.
The Canucks have now won eight in a row against the Avs overall and have earned at least one point in 18 consecutive meetings versus Colorado (16-0-2).
