Power play unplugged as Canucks fall

The San Jose Sharks scored two goals in the opening 3:26 of the first period and road the momentum to a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks Sunday night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

Alex Burrows cut into the Sharks 2-0 lead with his first goal of the season 11:05 into the second, but that’s as close as the Canucks got giving up a pair of power play goals over the final 29 minutes to lose in regulation for the second time this season.

Vancouver’s power play was 0-for-7 on the night with seven shots, while the penalty kill was 6-for-8.

Cory Schneider did what he could stopping 23 shots in his third consecutive start.

AND ANOTHER THING...
Minor victory: the Canucks held Patrick Marleau to just ONE goal, not two!

Jory's Jewels

Tweet of the Night - "4 posts?? Is Nathan LaFayette watching this game or something? #Canucks #Posts @canucksgame" - @rlestage. I think these are tears of pain, not laughter.
Feisty, feisty - Before opening puck drop, Alex Burrows and Logan Couture got into it and earned penalties. Then, to begin the second, Joe Pavelski hit Henrik Sedin with the butt end of his stick. #rude
What a Clowe'n - Ryan Clowe fell just short of San Jose's record for PMs in a game picking up 35 on eight infractions. Jody Shelley's record of 41 PMS remains safe - for now.
Post notes - Jannik Hansen broke in alone in the first period and his backhander on the breakaway was stopped by the post. A sign of things to come: the Canucks hit four posts and a crossbar on the night.
