THE CANUCKS WIN IF...

JORDAN SCHROEDER
The 22-year-old native of Burnsville, Minnesota will make his NHL debut tonight against the Flames as the team's third line centre playing alongside Mason Raymond and Dale Weise after being recalled from the Chicago Wolves (AHL) on Tuesday. Schroeder took part in the Canucks' brief training camp prior to the start of the season but did not initially make the team's 23-player roster. Schroeder has put up some modest numbers at the AHL level this season netting nine goals and 19 points in 30 games. In addition to his third line duties, he's expected to get some second unit power play time as well. |
SVEN BAERTSCHI
A first round selection of the Flames back in 2011, Baertschi gave Flames fan something to buzz about during a mid-season emergency call-up last season when he notched three goals during a brief five-game stint. He continued to impress earlier this season at the AHL level amassing six goals and 18 points in 21 games with the Abbotsford Heat. The 20-year-old Swiss is still seeking his first points of the new NHL season. Tonight will mark his first career game against the Canucks. |

- I'm pretty convinced the mystery team vying for Roberto Luongo is the Brooklyn Nets.@passittobulis
- You know who isn't surprised that Weise is in the top six? Dutch people. #DaleWeiseScoort@FarhanLaljiTSN
- Kassian keeping perspective, "I can get moved down as fast as I got moved up." #canucksOne-time Canuck training camp attendee Steve Begin isn't exactly on a career path that will see him break many NHL records but he already shares one in the Flames' books. Begin, originally a draft pick of the Flames back in 1996, recently returned to Calgary for his second stint with the team and has opted to don jersey number 25 this season.
That's somewhat significant because it's the fifth different jersey number he has worn in Calgary tying the club record set by Pat Ribble. Begin has previously worn jersey numbers 7, 26, 33 and 57 with the Flames. Ribble, a journeyman defenseman back in the mid-70's to early-80's, wore numbers 3, 8, 22, 23 and 28 for the Flames.

Comment

The present might not look particularly encouraging for the Flames right now but the future certainly looks bright with promising forward Sven Baertschi among the youngsters that Calgary fans can look forward to watching for many years to come.
