Canucks stumble out of the gate

Three Anaheim Ducks goals in just over three minutes early in the second period put the Vancouver Canucks on ice Saturday night at Rogers Arena in a 7-3 loss.

The Canucks, paced on the night by a goal and an assist from Daniel Sedin and two helpers from Jannik Hansen, held a 2-1 lead midway through the first period, but were outplayed the remainder of the game leading to their fourth consecutive season opening loss.

Cory Schneider started in net for Vancouver, but was replaced by Roberto Luongo in the second period after giving up five goals on 14 shots; Luongo stopped 10 of 12 shots faced.

The Canucks return to the ice Sunday night with the Edmonton Oilers in town for their season opener.

Opening disappointment - The Canucks have now dropped four straight season openers dating back to 2008-09 when they began the year with a 6-0 win over the Calgary Flames.
Call a mulligan? - Cory Schneider, replaced by Roberto Luongo after allowing five goals on 14 shots, last gave up five goals against on Nov. 16, 2011, a span of 25 starts.
Homecoming for Garrison - In his Vancouver debut, defenceman Jason Garrison played 20:53 during 26 shifts, was a minus-1, had three shots, two hits and played 4:25 on the power play.
