Monday, 01.10.2012 / 2:50 PM / News

Vancouver, B.C. – Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CS&E) and RONA Inc. (TSX: RON, RON.PR.A) announced today the completion of the Kensington Park Arena refurbishment in Burnaby, BC. The collaborative project, completed with the City of Burnaby, was unveiled September 30th and was the first community initiative by Canucks Sports & Entertainment and RONA following the announcement of a three-year partnership last September.

“We are pleased to partner with RONA and support our local community with this project that will benefit so many that pass through the doors of the Kensington Park Arena each year,” said Victor de Bonis, Chief Operating Officer, CS&E. “We share a commitment with RONA to give back to the community we call home and look forward to completing more projects like this in the future.”

Kensington Park Arena annually welcomes 110,000 users, including 50 minor hockey teams. With a focus on rejuvenating the arena foyer, the project included painting walls, support posts and ceilings; replacing ceiling fixtures with tiles and lighting; and fabricating a custom-built trophy display. RONA, through its RONA Home-Field Advantage Program, committed $70,000 worth of material to the project. The Kensington Park Arena refurbishment project took nearly five months and was completed with the collaboration of the City of Burnaby and help from CS&E and RONA volunteers.

“As a truly Canadian company, we are proud to help improve the welfare of the communities we live in,” said Karim Salabi, Executive Vice President, Marketing at RONA. “This project is yet another way for RONA to share its values and its passion for sports closer to home.”

Canucks Sports & Entertainment and RONA are committed to providing support and resources to initiatives that improve youth facilities in local communities. The Kensington Park Arena project was made possible by construction products supplied from RONA with technical resources provided through the RONA Fab Shop by Tradeworks.

Special thanks to Save-On-Foods, PepsiCo Foods and Van Houtte for providing refreshments to guests in attendance at the unveiling.
