Game day vs. Ducks
Andrew Ebbett, who's status was questionable for tonight and Bill Sweatt, recovering from an injury suffered at the Young Stars tournament, will both draw in for tonight's matchup against the Ducks.
Sweatt appeared in two games in Penticton but was sidelined for the rest of the tournament and has since been rehabbing the injury at camp.
"It was definitely disappointing, especially for it to happen at the rookie tournament before the big show actually started," said Sweatt. "But things happen like that in life, not everything goes your way but I was lucky that it was only a week and a half and now I'm back in it."
"Obviously it doesn't help when you start later when a player gets hurt in the first couple of days at camp," said head coach Alain Vigneault. "It's unfortunate for that individual but we have decisions to make and we don't have a very long time. You've got a certain amount of games, a certain about of days, we have to make them with the players that are capable of playing so it's unfortunate but he's going to get a chance to play tonight. Depending on how he does tonight, we'll see about tomorrow and we'll take it from there."
He was cleared for contact earlier in the week and will make his preseason debut at Rogers Arena.
"I just want to go out there and play my game and the best that I'm able to. Don't put any extra pressure on yourself and just see what happens from there."
Sweatt had no points in three preseason games with Vancouver last year.
Ebbett, who signed as a free agent this summer, is vying for one of the coveted roster spots that's available due to injuries.
"He's a skilled player," said Vigneault. "He's a player that brings a lot of speed and obviously an offensive mindset so with Ryan [Kesler] not being there, he's battling for that spot. I liked the way he's played so far."
Ebbett had an assist in the Canucks last preseason outing in Edmonton Thursday night.
Cory Schneider will get the start, as confirmed by Vigneault yesterday.
