CANUCKS HEAD TO THE ALL-STAR GAME

By Nolan Kelly

Canucks fans will find out tonight whether or not the Sedin twins will face off against each other at the all-star game this Sunday. The draft goes tonight at 4:30 PST on TSN, and there is rampant speculation about whether the Sedin twins play on opposite teams for the first time in their careers.

And which Sedin will get chosen first?

"I'd pick Henrik," said Daniel. "He was MVP, so I guess I'd have to go with him."

Ryan Kesler will join the twins in Raleigh as an alternate captain.

"It's going to be fun," he said. "I'm just going to take it all in. Who knows if I'll ever be back. It's going to be an experience I am going to relish."

Other alternate captains include Capitals defensemen Mike Green on Team Eric Staal, while Martin St. Louis and Patrick Kane are the alternate captains on Team Lidstrom.

Alain Vigneault will represent the Canucks coaching staff at the all-star game as an assistant for head coach Joel Quenneville. Vigneault is looking forward to the experience, but was quick to credit his players for the opportunity.

“Getting picked is just a reflection of how the team is doing,” said Vigneault. “You get that because we got the most points. It’s the players that get the wins.”

Canucks not playing in the all-star game will have a chance to take a few days off and prepare for the rest of the season.

"It gives me a chance to go home and tidy everything up and come back to Vancouver with the family," said Luongo on heading to Florida for the all-star break to see his wife and children.

While defenseman Kevin Bieksa will head to Whistler for some much needed R and R… and maybe some extreme sports?

When asked last week if he would be skiing in Whistler, Bieksa joked “No, cliff diving”.

The three Canucks all-star representatives ties a club record set in 2003 when Markus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi and Ed Jovanovski made the team.

Pavel Bure and Markus Naslund share the Canucks record for most points by a Canuck in an all-star game with three.

The game goes Sunday at one o’clock Pacific time in Raleigh, North Carolina.
