Vancouver, BC – Vancouver Canucks left wing Daniel Sedin has been named the National Hockey League’s first star of the week for the week ending January 9th. Sedin is joined by Jonas Hiller of the Anaheim Ducks (second star) and Jose Theodore of the Minnesota Wild (third star) as the NHL 'Three Stars' of the week.

Sedin

FIRST STAR -- DANIEL SEDIN, LW, VANCOUVER CANUCKS

Sedin led all players in goals (five) and points (seven) last week, helping the Canucks post a 3-0-1 record and claim first place in the NHL overall standings. Sedin recorded goals in all four starts, beginning with a one goal, one assist performance in a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks Jan. 3. He notched one goal in a 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames Jan. 5, tallied twice more and added an assist in a 6-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers Jan. 7 and recorded the Canucks' lone goal in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings Jan. 8. Sedin increased his season points total to 54 (25 goals, 29 assists) in 41 games, tied for third in the League scoring race with his brother Henrik (9-45--54). Daniel has notched points in 18 of his past 21 games with a +16 rating in that span, during which the Canucks have posted a 17-1-3 record.

Hiller

SECOND STAR -- JONAS HILLER, G, ANAHEIM DUCKS

Hiller posted a 2-1-0 record, 0.67 goals-against average and .977 save percentage in three starts, concluding the week with consecutive shutouts and an active scoreless streak of 154:50. Hiller began the week by stopping 20 of 22 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Nashville Predators Jan. 5. He made 27 saves for his third shutout of the season in a 6-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Jan. 7 and stopped 37 shots in blanking the San Jose Sharks 1-0 on Jan. 9. Hiller improved his season record to 21-14-3 with a 2.39 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and four shutouts in a League-leading 39 appearances. Hiller also tops all NHL goaltenders in saves (1,156), is tied for second in victories, ranks third in save percentage and is tied for fourth in shutouts (four). He is the first Ducks goaltender to post back-to-back shutouts since J.S. Giguere had three straight from Dec. 8-15, 2002.

Theodore

THIRD STAR -- JOSE THEODORE, G, MINNESOTA WILD

Theodore posted a 3-1-0 record with a 1.50 goals-against average and .946 save percentage in four starts last week as the Wild swept a three-game east coast road trip. He stopped 21 shots in a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils Jan. 4, recorded 35 saves in a 3-1 victory over the Boston Bruins Jan. 6 and notched his first shutout of the season and 30th of his NHL career by making 26 stops in a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins Jan. 8. Theodore closed the week with 24 saves in a 4-0 loss to the Dallas Stars Jan. 9. The 2002 Hart Trophy winner as NHL MVP improved his season record to 8-6-2 with a 2.56 goals-against average and .917 save percentage in 17 appearances.
