Canucks acquire Ryan Parent and Jonas Andersson
Parent and Andersson are acquired from Nashville in exchange for Shane O'Brien and Dan Gendur
Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired defenceman Ryan Parent and forward Jonas Andersson from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenceman Shane O’Brien and right wing Dan Gendur.
Parent, 23, played 48 games in the 2009.10 season with the Philadelphia Flyers, recording three points (1-2-3) and 20 penalty minutes. In 102 NHL regular season games, all with the Flyers, Parent has seven points (1-6-7) and 35 penalty minutes. He has also played in 27 NHL playoff games with Philadelphia, including 17 during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 6’3”, 198 lbs. native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, was selected by Nashville in the first round, 18th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Andersson, 29, finished the 2009.10 season with Minsk Dynamo in the KHL, recording 20 points (7-13-20) in 30 games played. In five NHL games, the 6’2”, 209 lbs. forward collected two penalty minutes. A native of Lidingo, SWE, Andersson played nine games for Sweden at the World Championships, registering six goals, second in goals scored at the tournament, and helping capture a bronze medal. Andersson was originally selected by Nashville in the first round, 33rd overall in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
O’Brien, 26, finished the 2009.10 season with eight points (2-6-8) and 79 penalty minutes in 65 games played. The Port Hope, ON native finished first among Canucks defencemen in hits with 112 and second in plus/minus with a +15 rating. In 299 NHL games, the 6’3” defenceman has registered 55 points (8-47-55), 605 penalty minutes and a career +15. O’Brien was originally selected by the Anaheim Ducks 250th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Gendur, 23, split the 2009.10 season in the ECHL with the Victoria Salmon Kings and Johnstown Chiefs. In eight games with the Salmon Kings, he registered four assists and six penalty minutes. In 21 games with the Chiefs, he collected eight points (2-6-8) and eight penalty minutes. The Vancouver, BC native was originally selected 206th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by Vancouver.
