City celebrates Canucks Day in Vancouver
City Hall is showing its support for the Vancouver Canucks hockey team as they enter the second round of the NHL playoffs by declaring tomorrow Canucks Day. The media is invited to join Mayor Robertson and Council, Canucks Sports & Entertainment owner Francesco Aquilini, President and General Manager Mike Gillis and Chief Operating Officer Victor de Bonis:
When: Tuesday, April 27 12:00 noon
Where: Vancouver City Hall
453 West 12th Avenue
North entrance – lower parking lot/flagpole
(near Captain George Vancouver statue)
The Mayor will read a proclamation for Canucks Day, and the Canucks flag will be raised for the day at City Hall. The Canucks mascot, Fin, will hand out white towels to help the public cheer on the city’s home team.
Since the Canucks inception into the NHL in 1970, the 2009-10 season marks the 23rd time the Vancouver Canucks have secured an NHL playoff berth. In the 2009-10 campaign, the Vancouver Canucks set a new record for most wins at home, celebrated their 300th consecutive sell-out and lay claim to the NHL’s leading scorer, Henrik Sedin. After winning the Western Conference Quarter-Final against the Los Angeles Kings in six games, the Canucks will make their ninth appearance in franchise history in the second round of the NHL playoffs.
