Roberto Luongo named to Canadian Olympic Team

Vancouver, B.C. – Steve Yzerman, Executive Director of Canada’s 2010 Men’s Olympic Hockey team, announced today that Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo has been named to Team Canada’s roster for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Luongo, 30, has played in 33 games with the Canucks this season, recording a .920 save percentage and a 2.27 GAA. In 577 career NHL games, Luongo has recorded a .919 save percentage and a 2.55 GAA. Luongo has a .930 save percentage and a 2.09 GAA in 22 career NHL playoff games.

The 6-foot-3, 210 pound native of Montreal, Quebec was a member of the Canadian Olympic team at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy and has represented his country on a number of occasions. Luongo has been a member of Olympic, World Cup, World Championship, and World Junior Teams. He helped lead Canada to the gold medal at the World Championships in 2004 and 2003 and at the World Cup in 2004.
