GAME DAY UPDATES

With back-to-back games on the horizon, the Canucks opted for an optional skate Saturday morning as they prepare for the Edmonton Oilers, who are on the back end of consecutive games.

The lineup is expected to remain the same with Rick Rypien being a game time decision after taking the ice Friday and Saturday's morning skate.

OILER WOES

The Oilers flew immediately post-game Friday from Edmonton to Vancouver after a 5-4 shootout loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Even more concerning than losing that extra point is that they will be without assistant captain, Ales Hemsky for the remainder of the season to have shoulder surgery.

Hemsky is second on the team in scoring behind Dustin Penner with 22 points (7-15-22) in 22 games this season.

Edmonton currently have nine players out of the lineup and suffered 155 man games lost this season.

"It's always tough having injuries but at the same time you're going to have guys who are hungry and want to play and I'm sure they'll be ready to play," said Daniel Sedin, who missed 18 games with a broken foot.

"It's tough but they've got a lot of young guys there to step up to take those missing spots," said Alex Burrows.  "They're a really young team, they've got a lot of skill, so we have to make sure we play good game."

The Canucks are not unfamiliar with a short bench, having lost 119 man games this year, which included two significant roster players in goaltender, Roberto Luongo and previoiusly mentioned, Sedin.
