SHIROKOV TO PLAY WITH THE SEDINS

Sergei Shirokov, who netted two goals against the Islanders in Terrace, is expected to play alongside Daniel and Henrik Sedin tonight against the Sharks.

"Training camp is a time of the year to try different experiences and without a doubt this young player has really caught our attention and we'll see what he can do with a couple of experienced veteran players," said Head Coach Alain Vigneault.

“It’s going to be fun,” said Henrik Sedin. “[Shirokov] put up points in the Russian league last year. You have to be a talent to do that.”

INJURY UPDATE

 Cody Hodgson, who is waiting for the go-ahead from coaches before he can suit up, make the trip out to Califorina  but he will likely not play. Instead, he will finally see action Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers.

"I'm getting my conditioning up and getting back into game form. So I should be playing any time now. Obviously, it's up to the coaches when I play. I'm not too sure about Friday but I know I'll play at least one game this weekend."

Last season, Hodgson netted 43 goals and 49 assists in 53 games with The Brampton Battalion.

Right-winger Ronald Petrovicky injured his MCL during yesterday’s game. Petrovicky, who played a little over three minutes, is expected to be out from 4-6 weeks.

THE CANUCKS SHUTOUT THE DUCKS

The Canucks shutout the Ducks with a 3-0 win, improving their pre-season record to 2-0.

Steve Bernier opened the scoring at 7:09 of the first period. Defenceman Kevin Bieksa netted a power-play goal at 9:44 of the second, and Aaron Rome finished off the scoring, find the back of the net, at 17:47 of the second.

Netminder Roberto Luongo found his form early, making a couple big saves off Teemu Selanne early in the first period. Luongo made 19 saves before Cory Schneider took over in the third period making 9 saves including Todd Marchant’s penetaly shot midway through the third.

"I thought both goaltenders played well," said Head coach Alain Vigneault. "Roberto made some good saves at the beginning of the game when we got into a little bit of penalty trouble and Schneider came in in the third and had to make some good saves and had to stop a penalty shot. Both guys were good in goal."

"I felt great," Luongo said. "I had some good reads and saw the puck really well. The first couple saves were backdoor plays and when I make one early, it puts me in the game right away."
