DEMITRA OUT FOR SIX MORE WEEKS
As the season draws near, many veterans hit the ice today for practice at UBC Thunderbird Arena. One notably absent player was Dubnica, Slovakia native Pavol Demitra. The right winger who is recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, will not be ready to play when the regular season starts October 1st.
“Its feeling good,” said Demitra. “No, I don’t think [I’ll be ready for the start of the season]. Right now we’ve got another six weeks.”
Last season, Demitra’s first with the Canucks, he finished with 53 points (20-33-53) in 69 games and had a plus-6 rating.
DAY TWO
Day two of prospects camp kicked off today at UBC. The prospects hit the ice for another intensive day of training.
After shaking out the nerves on day one, the prospects worked hard with a solid hour and a half on-ice practice followed up by dry land training.
“It’s been a lot easier the second day,” said defensemen Evan Oberg. “Getting the feel of things and getting your head back into it. There’s always a little bit [of nerves] but you try to focus on the ice. Focus on what you need to do.”
As for things not quite clicking yet, Oberg admitted the prospects struggled this morning with fine tuning their passing, but things started connecting.
“Towards the end things started clicking; nerves just getting at guys but it’s looking good and [we’re] anxious to get started tomorrow.”
Prospects camp finishes up tomorrow with another full day at UBC.
