Fishing for Kids 2008
All three were part of the West Coast Fishing Club’s 3rd Annual Fishing for Kids Fundraiser, which took place on Langara Island from June 5-8, 2008. Williams, a patient at BC Children’s Hospital, and his father Bill were invited as guests to the event, which has raised over $1 million dollars for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation since it began three years ago.
For Matt, who caught his first salmon while on the trip, it was just what the doctor ordered. “I would like to thank BC Children’s Hospital for everything they have done to help me over the years and for enabling me to go on such a fantastic trip,” he said. “One highlight was being surprised with a Canucks jersey which Willie autographed and took the time to write a very special message.”
Mitchell, a Vancouver Island native and fishing enthusiast, also participated last year in this annual event. “Willie was very genuine and caring and really made Matthew feel special,” Bill said. “He was very easy to talk to and really cared about being there.”
