First Strides 2007
|On November 28th, the Canucks Centre for BC Hockey invited over eighty initiation/novice boys and girls to GM Place to participate in the 2007 First Strides Program, presented by Danone. The First Strides Initiation program is designed to give BC Hockey Initiation/Novice players and parents an opportunity to visit General Motors Place and skate where their hero's play. The emphasis of the program is to provide a positive experience for young BC minor hockey players while visiting General Motors Place, and to improve on their hockey skills and make new friends.
Canucks Alumni Mike Brown and Todd Harkins were joined on the ice by Vancouver Canucks Mike Brown and Rick Rypien. “This is a great opportunity for Alumni to get out in the community and work with the Vancouver Canucks and local minor hockey coaches and volunteers,” said Harkins. The event gives the kids, parents, and coaches a chance to meet Canucks Alumni and watch them play an instructional role on the ice.
Together with minor hockey coaches and BC Hockey course conductors, Mike and Todd helped facilitate a safe and fun learning environment for the initiation/novice boys and girls while teaching them basic hockey skills and giving them the tools they need to play the game of hockey as they grow older.
We’d like to thank Mike, Todd, Mike and Rick for coming out and helping with this year’s First Strides Program and supporting minor hockey growth. The next First Strides Event will take place on February 15th, 2008. For more info on this program, visit First Strides or call the Canucks Centre for BC Hockey at 604.899.7770.
