Like Father, Like Son… an interesting trait. It has a definite impact on a selective group of the Canucks Alumni.
Several members of the Alumni are proudly following the hockey careers of their sons at many levels of the game.
The NHL New York Islanders and Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL are hockey home to Jeff Tambellini (Steve) and Ben Walter (Ryan)...both have had game action this season in the NHL. Jeff is the leading scorer in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He played at the University of Michigan while Ben was at the University of Mass (Lowell). Their proud fathers both played in the WHL before advancing to the NHL.
Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL showcase the sons of Doug Bodger and Greg C Adams in their lineup…..Cody Adams and Ryne Bodger are both defencemen making an impact with their Junior team.
The son of Dennis Kearns, Bracken, played with Milwaukee of the AHL. He has started this season with Reading Royals of the ECHL…Bracken played and was captain at the University of Calgary before embarking on his pro career.
Justin Courtnall (Geoff) is among the leading scorers with Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL… He wears the same jersey number as his dad (14). Justin was drafted by the NHL Tampa Bay Lightning.
Matt Butcher, son of popular Canucks defenceman Garth, played junior in Chilliwack of the BCHL... A draft pick of the NHL Canucks, Matt is attending college at Northern Michigan in the CCHA.
Chad Grisdale, the son of BCHL commissioner and former Canucks defenceman John Grisdale, is playing in Amarillo of the CHL after finishing his college career at UBC.
An impressive group of promising young hockey talent, following their dad’s hockey path…. all have aspirations for extended stays in the world of pro hockey and hopefully the NHL.
