Canucks To Support Literacy at Canwest Raise-A-Reader Day
Last year alone, Raise-a-Reader raised just under $1 million for family literacy programs in British Columbia. Major beneficiaries include the Canucks Family Education Centre, the Vancouver Public Library Foundation, Literacy BC, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and many more. In total, more than 100 family literacy organizations throughout BC benefit from Raise-a-Reader each year.
Raise-a-Reader started in Vancouver in 1997 and has since raised over $3.45 million dollars in support of children and family literacy in British Columbia alone. The Raise-a-Reader program went national in 2001, with eighteen other Canadian cities hosting Raise-a-Reader Day each year. The Vancouver Raise-a-Reader campaign continuously leads the rest of the country in annual fundraising.
