On July 13th 2007, Vancouver Canucks alumnus Greg C Adams and NHL alumnus Brad Palmer joined local Victoria minor hockey coaches and Hockey Canada representatives for the Dream Come True program at Oak Bay Arena in Victoria.

The Dream Come True program is a National Hockey League and Canadian Hockey Foundation initiative that provides new ice hockey gear to youth who would not otherwise have the means to participate in the game of hockey.

This was the first time such an initiative had been held at Oak Bay Arena. A number of local organizations including Kidsport Victoria, Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Victoria, and the YMCA/YWCA of Greater Victoria, assisted in selecting young boys and girls to participate in this special program.

“We’re very pleased to be involved in this program, giving so many youth the opportunity to play a game we love so much,” said Greg C Adams. “It’s very exciting to be associated with these organizations which are dedicated to helping foster the youth of British Columbia.”

Players involved in the program were hand selected by a committee of local agencies, including the Big Brothers & Big Sisters Victoria, Kidsport Victoria and the YMCA/YWCA of Greater Victoria. These participants will be outfitted with all equipment necessary for hockey, from skates to helmets. With the assistance of BC Hockey, players will be enrolled into Victoria Minor Hockey for 2007-08 for their inaugural season of hockey.

Annalyn Richardson of Victoria Minor Hockey and a number of volunteers helped make this day a memorable one for everyone involved.

“Without the help of the local minor hockey association and its volunteers, program such as these just can’t happen,” said Brian Swain of Hockey Canada. “It’s really the local associations, parents and volunteers that make these opportunities possible for the young boys and girls.”
