Rounding up a group of your girlfriends for a weekend to get away from it all? Jet-setting to Vegas, Mexico or some other quick, hot, and fun destination? I'm sure all of us have done this at least once, or plan to in the near future.
Heading to Calgary in below 25 degree weather in the dead of winter, probably not so common - but don't shake your head just yet. For these 16 ladies it was the best girls' weekend they could have imagined.
This recent road trip centered on the February 3rd match-up between our beloved Canucks and division rival Flames. We had all been fortunate enough to catch numerous games at the Garage, but stepping into the 'sea of red' at the Saddledome made it all the more fun!
Armed in our matching Canuck shirts and cowboy hats (when in Rome!) we entered the lion's den to an array of boos directed by the die hard Flames fans. Thankfully there were also quite a few cheers and high five's from fellow Canucker's who either traded in the umbrella for snowboots but remained a true Canuck fan, or made the trip up for the game like we had.
Although the end result was not what we had hoped, we cheered our boys on until the final whistle and continued to party the night...and morning away. We awoke on our final day in Cowtown just in time for one last shopping excursion before making our way to the airport and back to sunny and warm Vancouver.
So, the next time you and your girlfriends are planning a weekend to get away from it all, think outside the box, take a look at the away schedule and plan it around a game! For us, seeing our home team on the road is officially an annual event. Except next year we're catching them in Anaheim- no more snow for these Canuck girls.
