Have you ever wanted to take a road trip to see a hockey game?
Have you ever wanted to take a road trip to see the Vancouver Canucks play?
Have you ever wanted 45 friends to join you?
Well, I have. And I did.
On Friday, Jan 19th, 45 transplanted Vancouverites, now living in Toronto and New York City, journeyed to Buffalo to see the Canucks take on the Sabres. The final game of a four-game eastern swing that saw the Canucks go 3-0-1 was an absolute thriller. Despite losing in a shootout 4-3, Canuck supporters gave the HSBC Arena something to think about the next time Vancouver arrives in town, as 45 fanatics (plus several hundred scattered fans throughout the stadium) drowned out a stunned Buffalo crowd.
Chanting, cheering, and screaming every player's name, from the top of the lineup to the bottom.
Chanting, cheering, and screaming the coaches names.
Faces painted, shirts off, towels waving, up-and-down jumping at every goal.
Photos snapping, jerseys flailing, voices going hoarse by the minute.
45 vs. 18,000.
Buffalo never knew what hit them.
So next time you take a look at the schedule, and notice an away game that catches your eye, keep in mind it might just be the most fun you've ever had.
