RYAN KESLER'S ROAD TRIP DIARY

We asked Ryan Kesler to share some details with us from the road - and he didn't disappoint! Ryan talks about his plans for the holidays, the best gift he's ever given, and what the team hopes to do in the next two games.

DEC.20.2006

Today we're on our way to Boston from Minnesota. We play there tomorrow, then head straight to Columbus for a game Friday, before we get to come home for Christmas.

I have a ton of shopping left to do - mostly for my wife - so I have a busy couple of days ahead of me.

My wife's family is going to be in town over Christmas, which includes our 2-year-old niece. She's just figuring out what Christmas and Santa Claus is all about so having her around should be a blast. Christmas is so fun at that age - ever since I was in kindergarten I've made a popcorn string. I always put it on the tree and leave it there until the tree comes down - I have to admit there's not much left of that string and it's only the 21st.

Of course the other tradition is Christmas dinner. My wife's cooking this year and I know she's doing my favourite potatoes - I'm excited already!

But I think the best part of the holidays for me is definitely spending quality time with my family and the warmth you feel when you give somebody a gift that you just know they'll love.

Two years ago I gave my brother a pug puppy. We basically put her on the doorstep and rang the doorbell, and as you can imagine they were super excited. They named her Roxy. She's a great dog.

My dogs - I have two pugs too - get presents under the tree just like everyone else, and they get to go to the beach to run around which is the best gift I could possibly give them. Looks like it'll be pretty mild for them, but I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I can't remember the last time that I didn't have a white Christmas - growing up in Michigan we always had snow around the holidays. It just doesn't feel like Christmas without it.

My wife's made plans for us to go out this New Year's - it will be the first one I have been able to spend with her, so it will be a special one. I'm looking forward to that.

Today on the plane a few newbies, including myself and Trevor, made a foray into the regular card game. I'm not one to brag, but we dominated - ha! After the big coup we kicked back and watched Blue Collar TV (Larry the Cable Guy) - great stand up comedy. It had me in stitches the whole time. Definitely recommend it!

Felt like we needed a few laughs. Last night's game in Minnesota was tough. We had a good first period but no legs after that. Overall it was a poor effort. We have to nip that in the bud and come out with two strong performances in the next two games.

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, I'll be sure to check in from the road again in the New Year.
