UBC Thunderbirds To Play At GM Place

Vancouver, B.C. - In a continued effort to support the growth and development of hockey in British Columbia, the Vancouver Canucks and General Motors Place are pleased to announce that the arena will be opening its doors for the University of British Columbia to play a total of four Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) games.
The Thunderbirds will face off against the Lethbridge Pronghorns on December 1 and 3 and versus the Regina Cougars on January 12 and 13. Net proceeds from ticket sales will support UBC athletics.
"The Vancouver Canucks are pleased to continue to build upon our strong relationship with UBC Athletics and UBC Alumni by having a four game series played at General Motors Place," said Senior Vice President and General Manager Dave Nonis. "We have a number of unique events surrounding the games for our fans that will allow us to celebrate the past, present and future of hockey."
In an added feature on December 3, 2006, the Vancouver Canucks alumni will take to the ice against the UBC Thunderbirds Alumni at 12:30 pm in advance of the 2:00 pm game versus Lethbridge. The Canucks alumni roster will feature the likes of Kirk McLean, Greg Adams, Cliff Ronning, Jyrki Lumme and Garry Valk, to name a few.
General Motors Place will open its doors early for the January 13th game at 4:00 pm to watch CBC's Hockey Day in Canada coverage of the Vancouver Canucks at Toronto Maple Leafs game on the Canucks new scoreboard; the UBC game begins at 7:00 pm. An attempt will also be made to break the current CIS attendance record of 13,354 (set on March 19, 1985) on January 13th.
Tickets for the December games go on-sale this Saturday, November 18th at 10:00 am and tickets for the January games will be available beginning December 2nd. Single game tickets will be available at a price of $12 per seat through Ticketmaster Charge-By-Phone at 604.280.4400 or ticketmaster.ca. Groups of 10 or more may purchase a package for $5.00 per seat by calling 604.899.GOAL (4625).
