The Aquilini Investment Group owned by Francesco, Roberto and Paolo Aquilini, have entered into an agreement that will give them 100 percent ownership of Vancouver Canucks and General Motors Place.

"Today's announcement is exciting for our family and we are proud that we will be the 100 percent owners of this great franchise and world class facility," said Francesco Aquilini, a Managing Director, Aquilini Investment Group. "We would like to thank John McCaw for his tremendous efforts as owner of the club since 1994. He has shown great commitment to this city and to this team. The business of hockey in Vancouver is very strong now and John McCaw deserves credit for that."

The Aquilini Investment Group originally purchased 50 percent of the Canucks and General Motors Place on November 16, 2004. Formal League approval took place on March 9, 2005. The transaction between the Aquilini Investment Group and John E. McCaw Jr. is expected to close early in 2007. The sale is subject to NHL approval.

"Vancouver Canucks and General Motors Place will once again be 100% locally owned," said Francesco Aquilini.

In a press conference held today, the Aquilini brothers have expressed their dedication to bringing back a sense of community and local roots their main focus.

"Two years ago when our partnership was formed, we both knew that 100% local ownership was always a possibility because it made sense," says Francesco. "We will now have a complete local focus with a Vancouver vision, brand, and set of priorities. More importantly is the fact that this is more than just a business transaction, we as family are proud to be the stewards of our province's hockey team and world class facility."

The family holds adamantly that local roots and local ownership will help bring the community together, which will be beneficial for the city.

"From day one, we knew that local ownership made good sense for everyone," said Roberto.

"We all agree that when it comes to local ownership, there's an intangible that's really hard to explain," said Paolo. "I think it's something that every fan really gets."

The Aquilini Investment Group is a multifaceted private family business with real estate holdings and operating entities located in almost all major cities across Canada.

In addition, the Aquilini family is no doubt dedicated to bringing the Stanley Cup to Vancouver fans. They hope the philosophy they bring will help the organization and the team succeed.

"We are driven to bring the Stanley Cup to our community and reach out to every hockey fan across the entire province," says Francesco. "Having deep and solid local roots that reach deep into our community has been a hallmark of our family owned company since it was created by my dad 50 years ago today."
