After receiving the call to play with the Canucks last season, Alex Burrows has been turning heads with his explosive energy and intense work ethic. People are noticing. Burrows answers questions from his many fans.

How do you compare playing in Vancouver to playing in Manitoba? (Mike Knight; Alisha Wilson)

Oh, it's a lot different. First of all, the weather's a lot different. Manitoba's really cold and Vancouver's pretty nice so it's night and day but I think it's a lot more fun playing up here. Travel-wise too, we get charters here, down there we get commercial flights. Spend all day at the airport to catch your flight connections, so it's really different. I'm really glad to be here.

Does the Vancouver rain bother you? (Amy H., Vancouver)

I don't think the rain's that bad. I know last year it rained a little bit but it doesn't really bother me. I'd rather it rain than snow, like it did in Manitoba.

How has playing ball hockey helped your game? (Bruce Booth)

I think it helped me cardio wise, it got me in shape. Every summer I play a few times a week and on the weekends too with some of my friends. It's a really fast game and especially cardio wise, its great. You can run up and down the rink, it's the same size as a normal arena rink. It's good cardio wise and that's why I do it.

Do you prefer ice hockey or ball hockey? (Chiara F., Vancouver)

I like ice hockey much better. It's a no-brainer.

Who was your role model when you were growing up? (Amina Ayub, Vancouver; Josh Bradshaw; Jenessa Moore,Vernon; Colin Prasad, Port Hardy; Laura Shade)

My role model... I grew up in Montreal, I loved Patrick Roy, a Canadian goalie, he was great. Brought a couple of Stanley Cup trophies to Montreal when I was growing up so it was nice to see. Another player was Mats Naslund, he was a little left winger, real tiny, and worked really hard and scored lots of big goals for the Canadiens so he was probably my idol growing up.

If you could play with anyone in the league, who would you want to play with? (Rohinesh Nand)

Maybe Darcy Tucker would be one of them because I remember watching him play when he first started and he used to go to war every night and he's that kind of guy that wants to play hard every night. He's got a great work ethic I think. He's a very good player now, he's turning into a guy who can score goals too so I'd like to be one day a player like him.

Why did you choose to wear number 14? (Amanda G.)

I don't know. I know in junior, number 41 in junior so it's the vice-versa of that so maybe that's why. I'm not really a guy that's superstitious and I don't really believe in that kind of stuff.

If you were a character on Friends, which character would you be? (Brandan Spyker)

Maybe Joey because I think Joey's really funny on the show. I liked him a lot, too bad the show is done now but I loved that show, it was funny, growing up I used to watch it all the time. I think he's pretty funny and pretty goofy and likes to have fun and that's what I am too.

What advice do you have for younger players who hope to be in your shoes one day? (G. Messerli Surrey)

I would tell them to believe in their dreams, that's what happened to me. Never quit, always work hard and believe in what you can do and what you want to do when you grow up. I started to play hockey when I was young but never really thought I would be playing in the NHL because you think that there are so many other players throughout the world that want to be in the NHL. I didn't even get drafted and just started for junior when I was 18 so I went through the coach and all the toughest steps along the road but just work hard and never forget that you have a dream and believe in your dream. Just work hard and you can achieve it.
