The Canucks try for a second consecutive win tonight at GM Place after beating the Ducks 4-3 in the pre-season home opener.

Roberto Luongo went the distance for the first time allowing three goals on 26 shots, and stopped 3-of-4 Duck shooters in the shoot-out.
Daniel Sedin scored twice in regulation playing mostly with brother Henrik and Markus Naslund, fuelling speculation Vancouver's top line could be an all-Swedish attack.

Alain Vigneault flanked Brendan Morrison with Taylor Pyatt and Jan Bulis on the second line. The trio produced a go-ahead goal late in the first as Pyatt hit Bulis in the slot with a slick back-hand feed.

Both Morrison and Hank Sedin converted in the shootout to deliver the win.

A more seasoned Canuck line-up managed to stay mostly free of the penalty box giving the Ducks just seven power-plays, and giving up one special-teams goal. In the previous three games the Canucks had racked up 120 penalty minutes resulting in eight goals.

On the back end, Vigneault skated Sami Salo with Luc Bourdon, Mattias Ohlund with Lukas Krajicek, and Willie Mitchell with training-camp tryout Patrick Coulombe.

Canuck general manager Dave Nonis trimmed his roster immediately following Tuesday's game re-assigning five players to Manitoba of the AHL, including goaltender Julien Ellis and forward Marc-Andre Bernier, and releasing 28-year-old left winger Gordie Dwyer and 21-year-old Slovakian winger Vladimir Kutny.

Vancouver's roster currently sits at 35.

The Sharks are 3-1 in pre-season action and beat the Canucks 4-3 last Thursday. Milan Michalek scored the hat-trick, including the game-winner late in the third period.

With a leaner roster, the Canucks will dress a more experienced lineup than the one that surrendered a goal in the first 1:30 of the game in San Jose.

The Sharks are coming off two days rest having posted a 4-3 win over the Ducks Saturday.

Joe Thornton scored his first goal of the preseason, and Tomas Plihal got the game-winner midway through the third to improve San Jose's record to 3-1 in the pre-season.

Michalek leads the Sharks with four goals while five different skaters have three points each.

Daniel and Henrik lead the Canucks in scoring with four points apiece.

The Canucks battle the Oilers Wednesday, September 27th, at 6:00 pm.
