On a sunny September Sunday 24th, Vancouver celebrated the annual Word on the Street, and the Vancouver Canucks were proud to lend their support! Canuck Legend and current Director or Player Development, Stan Smyl, read "The Greatest Goal" by Mike Leonetti to eager young readers.

We also raised money for the Canucks Family Education Centre (CFEC) by offering limited edition copies of the new book "Canucks Legends: Vancouver Hockey Heroes" by Jeff Rud for a minimum donation of $100. Each copy was personally autographed by Trevor Linden (who wrote the forward to the book) and Stan Smyl. We must extend a big thank you to Raincoast Books for donating advance copies of "Canucks Legends" and also for matching every donation. Thank you!

Fin was also in attendance, signing autographs and handing out brand new Canucks schedule posters.

Vancouver's 12th Annual The brought visitors face to face with our region's vibrant writing and publishing community. Inspired by the launch of Hockey: A People's History, currently airing on CBC television, Word on the Street gathered as many hockey authors and events as possible for hockey fans and book lovers alike. And among the novels, storytelling, poetry (Haiku Night in Canada!), and hockey celebrities, Canada's game was celebrated throughout the day. One of the highlights was also having none other than Roch Carrier read his classic, The Hockey Sweater in both English and in French.
